Who We Are
At the People's Harm Reduction Alliance (PHRA) we work under the philosophy of harm reduction to fight the spread of infectious disease and educate the community about safer drug use.
We offer safe disposal of used needles, access to new needles and clean supplies, referrals to other pertinent services such as detox and treatment options, and now free Hepatitis C testing and vein care, all in a non-judgmental environment.
We are peer-run, meaning we have active and former users in all levels of our organization. We are proud to remain non-profit and community-based, but that means we need your donations to keep our doors open. If you want to contribute to the local fight against HIV/AIDS and other diseases, please consider giving to our programs.
Calling all women of PHRA!
We are offering a class on safer drug use with a women's health focus. We will discuss infection transmission, prognosis, and treatment options. Discussion of safer drug use will include a continuum of options, from best to better to please don't. We will cover techniques for injection as well as smoking crack. Detox and maintenance drugs will be explained and contact numbers made available. Handouts will be provided with the hope that women will want to share this information with others.
The class is led by Joelle Puccio, a registered nurse and two year PHRA family member. We will have snacks! We hope to offer this class to our entire family in the future, but for now, ladies only please. Tuesday, Jan 31 from 7pm to about 8:30 p.m. in the PHRA office at 43rd and University in the University Temple United Methodist Church. Ask at the table if you have trouble finding it. Confidential sign ups are available any time the table is open, but not necessary to attend. Hope to see you there!
